She found him sitting on the beach, looking decidedly pensive. This was disturbingly unlike him.
She sat down beside him and asked without prelude, "What is it?"
He turned to her with a smile that wavered. "Nothing."
She eyed him. "Don't you start." And, considering the hour of the morning that it was... "Another bad dream?"
He sighed, nodding reluctantly. "I disappeared again."
She couldn't resist the urge to put her arms around his shoulders. "You won't."
He looked up at her, his expression still tainted by that unusual seriousness. "And if I do?"
On a whim, she reached down and splashed him in the face. "Then I'll wake you up," she said. "After all, it's only a bad dream."
Once he'd stopped sputtering, he turned to her in protest. "Yuna!"
She smiled. "I'll be ready anytime you need it."
He moved to splash her in response, but she gave him a push as he leaned, sending him flailing into the water. He came up coughing--but laughing. "You're getting too good at that!"
"Because I'm not going to lose you again," she stated, just barely getting the words out before he pulled her in after him.
