Uncomplicated

They don't trust each other. That's okay. Some days Juliet's all right with that (some days she's not); today is one of them. She appreciates Sayid, a complicated man if she's ever met one (she's read his file, after all); but she's always known where she stands with him. There's something about this moment, sitting here with him, the space between suggesting a rescue and actually carrying it out, and she feels something drift in on the surf and breeze and the cry of gulls. It's nothing she can put her finger on, but in the space of that moment, she wishes that both of them were just a little less complicated.
