Chou ni Naru Hi is one of my favorite manga of all time... this is what came out after rereading it. I don't own Chou ni Naru Hi.

Mikami.

Murmured, called, sung, sighed.

Mikami.

In the waiting room, Mikami watched as people came and went, bringing news and food and tears of joy or despair. Pacing the halls, Mikami looked out the window and watched two butterflies twirling together in the air.

Mikami.

He was as beautiful and fragile as the butterfly he wore on his hand, the one his mother hadn't yet noticed. He was the moon and stars and sun and sky and everything would be dead and cold without him. He was softer than last night's sheets, tasted better than candy and ice cream and felt better than anything Mikami was familiar with. He was sadder than the rain, brighter than the sun.

And Mikami waited for the doctor to deliver the news. It was a difficult, risky surgery. It was a hope and a dream wrapped in thorns and chicken wire. And he waited and waited with the family that had met him only that morning, hadn't questioned what he had done with their son, nephew, cousin.

And he waited for a long, long time, watching butterflies out the window.

Mikami.
