"You didn't feel pity. You didn't feel anything."
"That's enough, Clary!" It was Jace. I stared at him. His cheeks were flushed as if he'd been drinking the wine at his elbow, his eyes too bright. "Don't talk to my father like that."
"He's not your father!"
Jace looked as if she had slapped him. "Why are you so determined not to believe us?"
"Because she loves you," Said Valentine.
I could feel all the color drain from my face, looking up at him would be unbearable.
I chance a glance up at Jace, not having any idea how he would react. I was dreading it, though. She felt a lump slowly lodging itself in her throat.
"W-what?" Jace looked genuinly surprised.
I could see out of the corner of my eye that Valentine was staring at me in amusement, like he knew that he had me backed into a corner. "She fears that I am taking advantage of you," he said. "That I have--"
"Clary," Jace interupted loudly. He cautiously started to edge towards her. "I--"
Just then the door burst open, and a large blur of brown raced across the room. Suddenly, Valentine wasn't there anymore.
"Luke!" I vaguely heard myself murmur. Jace seemed to hear me though. I saw blood, but I couldn't tell from who.
"Clary, get out of here, now!" Luke yelled at me.
"NO!" Valentine roared in response. They were suddenly dangerously close to the portal.
"Luke, watch out!" I yelled, but I was too late. The both of them tumbled through the mirror. Then it allwas silent.
AN: Really short, I know, but it will do for today. The next one will be longer. Reveiw please :)
