I Stand Alone

Roukai Romb, ghostly protector of Amity Park, sat atop City Hall, his white hair fluttering in the wind and his green eyes surveying the city below.

Like every tree

Stands on its own

Reaching for the sky

I stand alone

I share my world

With no one else

All by myself

I stand alone

He took to the sky, flying high above the city. Tonight, it was peaceful. There were no ghosts out trying to take over the world. Nights like these had become increasingly rare.

I know the sound

Of each rock and stone

And I embrace what others fear

You are not to roam

In this forgotten place

Just the likes of me are welcome here

Roukai had been protecting the city for several years now. His friends, Charile and His sister, Lily, had gone off to college with promises to visit. Roukai smiled when he thought of them. Charile had gotten a girlfriend and was thinking about settling down, while His sister, Lily had pursued a career as an artist/political activist.

She had finally told Roukai her feelings for him, but he had decided that he couldn't love her back. If he did, his enemies might come after her and he didn't want her to get hurt.

That simple statement had broken both hearts, but they promised to remain good friends, no matter what.

Everything breathes

And I know each breath

For me it means life

For others its death

It's perfectly balanced

Perfectly planned

More than enough

For this man

Roukai turned to fly on his back and looked up at the stars.

Like every tree

Stands on its own

Reaching for the sky

I stand alone

I share my world

With no one else

All by myself

I stand alone.

Roukai finally had a chance to think. After a near-death experience with Walker, and almost losing his friends during a fight with Vlad, the boy had then decided to break all ties with his human half.

He gave a press conference and told everyone that Roukai Fenton had died and that Roukai Romb would be their full-time protector so no one else would suffer the his sister, Lilye fate.

I've seen your world

With these very eyes

Don't come any closer

Don't even try

I felt all the pain

And heard all the lies

But in my world

There's no compromise

His parents had been devastated, enough to give up ghost-hunting. Jazz merely gave him a knowing, if somewhat saddened, smile. With Valerie off at college, Roukai now only had to worry about the ghosts that escaped the Ghost Zone.

Like every tree

Stands on its own

Reaching for the sky

I stand alone

I share my world

With no one else

All by myself

I stand alone

Roukai floated to the top of the highest hill in Amity Park and watched the sun come up.

All by myself

I stand alone

All by myself

I stand alone

Roukai gave a tired sigh as the last ray of sunshine cleared the horizon and a scream broke his reverie.

A new day had begun and the city needed its hero once more.
