Read me a story
AN:I was watching the General Conference of my church, and one of the speakers reminded me of this story.
A four year old Pan followed her father down the stairs. "Where are you going, daddy?" She asked. He looked up at his daughter and smiled. "I've got to hurry and eat breakfast so I can go to work." She smiled back. "Can you read me a story?" She asked. Gohan felt a pang of regret. "Sorry honey but I don't have time right now." He saw her face fall. "How about later sweetheart? I'll read you a story later." This seemed to satisfy her because she smiled again, kissed him on the cheek, and the disappeared upstairs to get dressed. Gohan continued to get ready for work.
Gohan dialed his parent' number. "Hello?" His daughter answered. He grinned. "Gosh mom! You sound a lot younger!" He teased. He heard his daughter giggle. "Hi daddy! It's me Pan!" "Oh! Hi sugar! Is grandma there?" "Grandma's outside. Where are you?" He sighed. "I'm at work honey, but I really need to speak to Grandma, ok?" "Ok daddy! But first, can you read me a story?" For the second time that day he felt bad. "Sorry honey. I don't have time. I just need to talk to Grandma." He heard his little girl sigh. "Ok daddy." He heard her cover the receiver. "Grandma! Daddy's on the phone!"
A moment later his mother got on. "Gohan?" She asked. "Yeah mom, listen. I'm sorry but I was wondering if you could keep Pan a little later today? Videl called me and said she had to stay till six, and I don't get home till 9:30. Videl can get her around 6:15 though. Is that ok?" His mother sighed. "Gohan! You don't spend any time with her anymore! You don't even spend very much time with Videl!" He winced. That was true. "Yes. I'll keep her till Videl comes. Now though, we have to go to the store. Bye!" He heard the click before he could even say goodbye. Quickly he went back to work.
Gohan lay in bed snoozing lightly. His wife, Videl, was also asleep. Suddenly the door opened and in walked his daughter. She crept around to his side of the bed. "Daddy?" She whispered. "Mmm?" Maybe she had had a nightmare? "Can you read me a story?" He groaned. "Pan, baby. Daddy's very tired. Go ask mommy." She nodded. "Ok daddy." She walked to the other side of the bed. "Mommy?" He heard her sweet voice ask. "Can daddy read me a story?" His eyes popped open. That wasn't what he meant! He heard Videl laugh. "Yes sweetheart. Daddy can read you a story." She sat up in bed and nudged him to get up. He grumbled but obeyed.
HALF AN HOUR LATER
Gohan looked down at his family in contentment. His wife was leaning on his chest, their daughter in her lap, they were both asleep. He felt a great feeling of peace, just being there with them. Thank Kami his daughter had asked him to read her a story. With a truly happy smile on his face, he fell into a deep sleep.
AN:This is about the time when the narrator says: "Family. Isn't it about time? From the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." How kawii!
