A/N: Just something that randomly occurred to me as I started playing through Crisis Core (-resists urge to squee- I've been waiting so long to play it and now I've finally gotten my hands on it!). And yes, if you're wondering (incoming semi-shameless-plug) I do intend to finish Echoes of Silence, but with the combination of a new job and school finishing and me being way too picky it's going slowly.
Disclaimer: Don't own it.
"Meet me in the briefing room."
Sephiroth hung up the phone and leaned casually against the desk in the briefing room. Zack should be there in under two minutes, then they would be off.
Zack strolled into the briefing room, whistling cheerfully. Looking around, he saw no one. Frowning, he continued forward, but stumbled as he tripped over something lying on the floor.
Looking down, he saw it was –
"ZACK!" screamed Sephiroth as he rose to his feet.
"Uh, why were you lying on the –"
"THREE DAYS!" Sephiroth continued to scream, heedless of Zack's question. Zack stared at him wide-eyed. The normally perfectly-kempt General had large bags under bloodshot eyes, stubble along his face and his hair was a tangled, greasy mess.
"THREE DAYS!" Zack drew back suddenly as spittle flew into his face. "I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU FOR THREE DAYS! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF BEING PUNCTUAL?"
Zack blinked at him, shocked into silence. Sephiroth apparently did not accept this as a proper response.
"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU DOING FOR THREE DAYS?" he bellowed, his chest heaving.
Zack puffed out his chest as he fondly remembered his conquests of the last seventy-two hours.
"Well I cleaned up leftover Wutai troops from the mines at Corel, and then this crazy little girl keeps getting me to go treasure hunting for her but I don't mind because I got a whole bunch of sweet materia and items and – "
"...You were doing side missions when I had personally requested for you to come meet me?" Sephiroth asked slowly, his voice reverted to a flat, monotonous tone that promised death to all people unlucky enough to be named Zack Fair.
"Well, yeah," Zack said, rather put out that Sephiroth wasn't the least bit interested or impressed by all his awesome adventures.
Sephiroth stared at him, then abruptly turned on his heel and strode out of the room.
"Hey, Sephiroth, c'mon man, the side missions are really important – "
"DON'T TALK TO ME!"
"Sephy! Wait up – "
"DON'T CALL ME SEPHY!"
Zack sighed. He tapped his foot, wondering what to do while he waited for Sephiroth. He brightened almost immediately. There were still several more missions he could go on!
Grinning, he strode from the room.
A/N: ...C'mon, has no one ever wondered about how no one ever mentions the fact you've been running around doing sidequests when the world's about to end?
