Never

Disclaimer: Do you really think I own it? Didn't think so.

"Never."

"Never?"

"Never."

"Oh, come one Lily. I'm just asking for one measly little date. Just one. If you still don't want to go out with me after it, I promise I won't bother you ever again."

"No deal."

"Please?"

"I'm sorry, Potter, but the day I go out on a date with you is the day I fall in love with you...and as we all know, it is never going to happen. Accept it and move on."

"...and what if I was to make you fall in love with me?" The raven haired boy sauntered closer to her.

The red-head took a step back, "That is never going to happen." Another step back.

"Are you sure...?" James asked, his voice a whisper now. He took a step closer, moving agonizingly slowly.

Lily realised she was holding her breath, she let it out and continued staring straight at the hazel eyed boy. She folded her arms across her chest, willing herself to ignore the effect he was having on her.

"Yes." Her voice cracked. This was not going the way she had planned.

"You didn't sound so sure." Another step towards her.

She took another step behind her before hitting the back wall. James moved forward.

"I'm positive." She was whispering now. She swallowed as he took another step. She could feel her heart beating faster and faster. She bit her lip.

"Oh, really?" He was so close she could feel his breath against her face.

Finally, he stopped. They were only inches apart now. He stuck his hand on either side of the wall, trapping her.

She couldn't breathe. She couldn't speak. It was as though her mind had shut down.

"Because I think that you're wrong." He whispered in her ear, his voice and breath melting together sending chills down her spine, "Never say never." He moved towards her face now, painfully slow.

His hazel eyes were a mixture of emotions, swirling around, making the pit of her stomach clench, twisting and turning.

She closed her eyes, moving towards him. Her whole body yearned for him, ached for him. Waiting in anticipation, she moved closer still, opening her eyes.

He was gone.

All she heard was the slamming of the classroom door as her mind powered back up again.

A/N: I really wanted to write one where James was the one that left Lily hanging. This was fun! Probably not my best, but I felt like I needed to write something like this after the angsty fics I've been doing lately. Enjoy. Reviews are very much loved!
