His hand swallows hers completely, until the pale is lost in the brown and colour isn't the issue as much as touch and feel. But she grips him hard enough that it feels like pain, and though he has the strength of a giant in his forefinger, he cannot wrest his hand away. She will not let him let go.
"No te preocupes," Chad murmurs, in Spanish because she likes to hear him speak it; it is a comfort, it soothes. She will not admit it though; any more than she will admit the things that make her cling to him fiercely, like a buoy. Ten years since the day they met, and she is as stubborn as ever. "I am not Ichigo. I am not going anywhere."
"I know," she says, snorting, her eyes on the dirt. She still doesn't let go, though. "You're not as stupid as Ichi-nii."
"Then…" He lets the rest of his intended statement hang in the air; she knows what he is about to say. She ignores it, though; says nothing. It is like she is trying to outrun the rain.
"I know," Karin repeats, and he can hear the adult ringing in her voice, but when she looks up at him, it is with eleven year old eyes.
A/N: 'No te preocupes' - don't worry.
