A/N: I am extremely proud to announce that I now have a beta. Major credit goes to Metisse for fixing my various grammar mistakes, typos and replacing some of my awkward sentences. (It turns out that I'm extremely good at awkward sentences…)

Disclaimer: Pigs have yet to fly. I have yet to acquire Law and Order: CI. I have, however, acquired an amazing new beta.

It was late by the time Captain James Deakins finally gathered up his things and prepared to head home for the day. His afternoon consisted of phone calls and meetings so he decided to stay late and catch up on some paperwork.

As he exited his office, he discovered that he wasn't the only one who had resigned himself to a late night. The squad room itself was empty and dimly lit but he could see a faint light coming from behind the closed blinds of one of the conference rooms.

Goren and Eames set themselves up in there several hours ago and were still going over the details of their latest case. As much as he appreciated their initiative, he decided that it would be better for them to go home now and get a fresh start tomorrow, rather than pull an all-nighter.

However, as he opened the door and entered the conference room, he saw something that made him stop dead in his tracks: Robert Goren and Alex Eames locked in a tender kiss.

The two detectives sprang apart like a couple of teenagers caught making out in a corner.

"C-captain!" Eames exclaimed as she averted his gaze.

"Sir, I-it's not what you think." Goren said quickly, without really thinking.

Both their faces were flushed with embarrassment.

Deakins sighed and brought a hand up to rub his temple. "Alright," he said, keeping his voice calm and even, "then could you kindly explain to me exactly what it is that I walked in on here?"

The two glanced at each other and turned and even brighter shade of red than Deakins thought was possible. Neither one of them were able to meet their captain's eyes. Then they both began talking at once.

"I, uh…"

"See, we… erm…

"We weren't… planning to…"

"We didn't…"

Unfortunately: as brilliant as the they both were, they seemed incapable of anything but stuttering and blushing in their current situation. After a few more of their feeble attempts at excuses, Deakins decided to put them out of their misery.

"You know what?" he asked, effectively silencing his detectives. Goren and Eames stared at him intently. "I'm just going to walk out of here, go home, and pretend I didn't see anything, okay?"

Now the two seemed stunned into silence, as they simply nodded.

The captain was almost out of ear-shot by the time Goren regained his ability to speak. "Th-thank you, sir…" he called after him, sounding slightly unsure.

"Just don't let it affect your work; I don't want to regret this later." He said over his shoulder as he continued on his way out. He shook his head and smiled to himself as he stepped onto the elevator.

Goren and Eames stared after him in stunned silence. After the elevator doors closed on their captain, the two detectives finally looked at each other and smiled in relief.
