Summer haze
Settles across
The land,
Softening
The hills
Into blue
Mirages-
Shippo
Noodles
In the
Shaded
Stream-
Flipping
Trout to
The bank
For dinner
As Kirara
Basks.
Miroku
Sleeps,
Robe loosened
Sandals off
In the heat
While
Sango
Washes
Her kimono,
Hair tied up
Sweat beading
Down her face.
Kagome
Sits watching
Shippo
From a rock
Midstream,
Toes in the
Frigid water,
Daydreaming.
Hair braided,
You doze
On a branch,
In unconscious
Fluid grace
One eye open,
One eye shut;
Even for you,
It's too hot to
Chase spiders.
Kagome
Stands,
Teeters,
And with a
Little scream,
Falls
In.
Not knowing
How you
Got there,
You grab
Her hand,
Pulling her
Out of the
Current-
Her clothes
Cling to her,
Translucent
In the
August
Sun,
Reminding
You of
Kikyo
Long ago,
Bathing
In a mountain
Stream
At dawn,
Thin robe
Clinging
To her
Skin-
Your eyes
Meet…

Kagome looks
Away…

(Is that the
Faint scent of
Graveyard soil
Drifting
In the
Summer
Wind?)
