A/N: OK, I seriously don't know what's up with me and writing Harry/Hermione fics. It's very out of character for me. Oh well, it's short, but I hope you like it. Reviews are appreciated.
We'll Just Pretend
"We'll just sit here and pretend the world's not ending," he said to her softly.
In the distance the screams began to die down.
"We'll just sit here and talk and pretend everything is going to be alright."
They were locked in a small room of the castle. There was no escape. They had spent the last hour and a half searching for an exit. If there had been a way out, they would have found it. Admitting defeat, Harry and Hermione just sat there, staring at the door as the battle raged outside. He put his arm around her and she instinctively moved closer to him.
"We'll just pretend it's not the end. We'll just pretend it's not all over."
She was crying silently, eyes still latched numbly to the door. Ron was dead outside that door. He died fighting while the other two were being forced into their current prison.
"We'll just pretend we won't die here. We'll just pretend they're not already dead."
The crashes had ceased and the screaming subsided. All that could be heard was the sound of footsteps approaching the door.
"We'll just pretend it's not the end," he murmured. "I love you. We'll just pretend you love me."
He tilted her head towards him. He was still kissing her when the flash of green met his eyelids.
