Many thanks to Maryann for beta reading my story! All remaining mistakes are mine!
The mail arrived. As always, many inhabitants of Atlantis were waiting for news from Earth. News from friends, relatives, mostly, but sometimes the news was just bills and reminders.
Banal news and important news. Happy news and sad news.
Looking at the recipients you could sometimes deduce the contents of the mail.
Sheppard tried this, while watching McKay reading his mail.
Hmm. Indifference. It seemed to be nothing of importance. Or… now McKay was reading his letter a second time. This time he looked disbelieving. He read his letter a third time, looking more irritated. Sheppard was curious, even more so when McKay came to him, waving the letter in his hand. "Colonel, we have a leak at the SGC."
"Why do you think that?" Sheppard asked.
"I've got a letter from my liability insurance."
"From your liability insurance?" Sheppard said wonderingly, and McKay showed him the letter.
Dear Meredith Rodney McKay (insurance number: 348m54515mk896468):
This is to inform you that we are unable to renew your contract for coverage for personal injury, property loss and material damage. Your insurance coverage will end at the date quoted in the letterhead.
Insurants with an above-average damage profile are expelled from our insurance as a protection for our other insurants. This will also happen, if damage was not reported to us by you, but still showing a special relevance.
Documents have been given to us, which prove that you destroyed through negligent action five sixth of a solar system in the Pegasus galaxy. Though it is not possible to estimate the exact damage, there's no denying the fact that this damage has a special relevance.
We wish you all the best for your future.
