Hush, little baby, don't say a word, mama's going to buy you a mockingbird.
I bounced around the room, Neville had finally stopped screaming. It was about two in the afternoon, I had put him down for his nap about an hour ago. He had just recently turned a year old, not that that meant much for how much he cried.
If that mockingbird won't sing, mama's going to buy you a diamond ring.
Neville cooed and reached up to tug on my hair. I looked up at the clock, Frank should've been home already…
A loud bang caused me to turn around in alarm. A few seconds later, I heard men yelling. I shuffled Neville so he was only occupying one arm and searched hurridly for my wand.
If that diamond ring turns brass, mama's going to buy you a looking glass.
A window broke behind me and I ran upstairs towards Neville's room. I slammed the door behind me. The huge mirror in the room showed two men, both very large and carrying wands.
If that looking glass gets broke, mama's going to buy you a billy goat.
How they found us was beyond me, but I didn't waste time thinking about it. The door burst open and I put Neville in his crib, putting myself in between them.
If that billy goat won't pull, mama's going to buy you a cart and bull.
"Oi! What are you and the rest of the Order planning?" The man in front began forward, his wand pointed at my heart.
"You'll never get anything out of me!" I shouted at them, keeping my ground.
If that cart and bull turn over, mama's going to buy you a dog named Rover.
"CRUCIO!" My insides seemed to catch fire. Every ounce of my being was filled with this mysterious fire. I fought to keep conscious even as the fire was gone.
If that dog named Rover won't bark, mama's going to buy you a horse and cart.
I heard running from downstairs.
If that horse and cart fall down, you'll still be the sweetest little boy in town.
"Alice!" A very breathless voice called out my name. I knew who it was, but I couldn't acknowledge it. Next thing I knew there was more yelling. Soon there was faraway screaming that could only be Neville. There was a thump of a body next to me, then nothing.
So hush little baby, don't you cry, daddy loves you and so do I.
