Candy woke up on a large black bed in the middle of a dark room.
"Where am I?" She asked. Talking to nobody but herself. However someone answered.
"Candy you're awake!" a greatly relieved voice said.
"Where am I ?!" Candy repeated.
"In the Dead Man's House." And Christopher Carrion moved out of the shadows. Instinctively Candy cringed back.
"You said that you were going to kill me."
"I wouldn't ever hurt you Candy. You fainted on top of the roof and I brought you back down. I saved you."
Something in the way he said it made her pay attention. It was soft, almost tender. Candy attempted to sit up and look at him.
"Oh!" she fell back onto the pillows. That didn't work so well. But before Candy could try again Carrion came over and lifted her head for her.
"You're still too weak to even sit up. Something happened on top of that roof only I don't know what." He heaved a long frustrated sigh.
Candy wrapped her arms around him and managed to sit all the way up.
"Where's the kitchen? I'm hungry."
"I'll go get some food for you."
"No! Don't leave me alone I don't want that to happen again!"
"Oh! Of course not. It'll take you too long if you walk so I'll have to carry you. Is that all right?"
Next thing Candy knew the Lord of Midnight had lifted her up and she was snug up against his chest. Instantly her cheeks turned red. Thankfully, Carrion didn't notice. It was a long trip to the kitchen and the rocking motion of Carrion's walking caused Candy to fall asleep.
When she woke up she was back in the same room as before and the Prince of Darkness was sitting on the bed looking down at her with concern.
"You were asleep by the time we reached the kitchen, but I brought you some smyrion fruit."
This time she was able to sit up with only a little help from Carrion. Nevertheless he kept one arm securely around her waist.
Biting into the fruit she smiled. Turning her head towards Christopher she said "Thank you! It's delicious." He then stole the fruit and took a bite. "Yes it is delicious."
