If I Never Knew You

She traces the soft angles of his shoulder with the fingers of one hand. A lazy smile is on her face. She hasn't been so relaxed in weeks.

"You know, I could really get used to this," Matt tells her. His voice is muffled by the pillows he's lying on. He pushes them away and tries again. "This. This is great."

Her smile widens. "I agree. It's good that we can finally take a break from work and everything else there is to just relax. Don't you think?"

"Yeah," Matt nods. "Definitely."

They lapse into comfortable silence.

Her fingers continue their journey from his shoulders to back behind his neck, where they begin to massage out the knots of stress and tension that had build up.

Her touch is fire.

"Mmmm, that's good."

She pauses. Grins.

"Don't stop. Please," Matt says breathily. "I...uh...actually, I've been thinking."

"Yeah?" She urges him on as her fingers go back to work.

"If I never knew you..."

"...I'd have to pay for a lot more chiropractor bills."

"Matt!" She swipes at him with the back of her hand.

Matt jerks back, but not quickly enough. "Ow! Hey!"

"You asked for it."

"Yeah, well. I wasn't done."

"Go on, then. Finish." She almost challenges him with the look she gives him.

Matt takes her hand in his and looks her in the eyes. "And if I never knew you," he says, "I wouldn't be a whole person. I love you, Em."

Her grin expands and she leans in to kiss him. "I love you too, Matt."
