The skin on Dad's hands used to be gentle, although never soft. Those hands used to be slow, smooth, steady, they knew how to embrace and held healing powers, pain vanquished with a touch.
The skin became rough, the warmth replaced by fire. It blistered, calloused, the hands no longer held up, but pushed. Cracks appeared, dirt ingrained. Skin aged beyond its years and so did Dean.
Eventually, ice faded the skin, a stillness Dean didn't recognise lay in the hands, strength he'd known all his life absent. Later, flames licked dry skin and Dean turned from his brother's touch.
