The Proof of Dreams
"When you thought that it was over
You could feel it all around
And everybody's out to get you
Don't you let it drag you down"-Coldplay, Everything's Not Lost
"I don't see Bella anymore," Jacob tells Leah. "I just see you."
"I'm sure you do," Leah responds, turning away from Jacob. Leah may not believe Jacob, but he's telling the truth. All he sees is Leah's hair, her legs, her body…everything about her.
Jacob stares after Leah for a moment, then runs after her. "What do I have to do to convince you that I'm telling the truth?" he asks, putting one big hand on Leah's shoulder.
"Nothing," Leah says, turning around to glare at him. "Because you're not telling the truth."
"I am," Jacob insists.
"Then how come when we're in wolf form, you don't think of anything but Bella?" Leah asks.
"Haven't you ever heard of a cover-up?" Jacob snaps. "You should know; you use one to keep your thoughts from Sam all the time."
"Ok, what do you think when you're not in wolf form?" Leah asks.
Jacob grins. "You don't want to know," he says.
"Yes, I do."
"Phase," Jacob orders.
"What did you just say to me?"
"I said 'phase.' I'm going to show you what I think about."
Reluctantly, Leah phases, with Jacob eyeing her naked body whenever she isn't looking. Jacob phases, then lets his wildest day dreams flow out of his head into Leah's.
He first thinks simply of touching Leah, then of kissing her, then slowly, he begins to think of other things. Of them in the woods, Leah crying out Jacob's name and sighing. Of him pushing her against a tree and each kiss being like a wild fire. Of every part of Leah being his, Jacob's, to touch and kiss and show his complete passion for her.
Leah watches all of his day dreams, even the most 'R' rated ones, in silence. Her tail swishes back and forth as she considers. "You never thought about Bella that way, did you?" she asks quietly, from the back of her head.
"No," Jacob answers, a bit timidly. "Somehow…I knew I was never going to get Bella. And, if by some miracle, I did get her, did I really want someone who was always pining after someone else?"
"I pine after someone else," Leah whispers, her tail flicking around nervously.
"But…it's not the same, somehow," Jacob says. "I want you. Not Bella. You. You're able to heal. I know what happens when Bella is left by Edward. You're not like that. You move on."
Leah nods and closes her eyes. Then, forgetting she's in wolf form, she begins to day dream about her and Jacob.
"Leah…" Jacob says quietly.
"You saw that, didn't you?" Leah asks.
Jacob nods his big wolf head and barks out a laugh.
Leah phases back into a human and waits for Jacob to phase back also. When he does, Leah asks, "Ever think about making those dreams a reality?"
"Only every day," Jacob laughs. He walks closer to Leah, looking at her with soft eyes. "I love you, Leah," he whispers as he picks her up and kisses her. "Now and forever, I love you."
