"Just making my way, making my way through the crowd…"
Danny sang to himself while he was travelling home on the subway. He hated it, he hated people who were crowded around him, and now he hated New York, too. Normally he liked the city, it was beautiful; but now, nothing was in its place. He felt tired and just wanted to go home and get to bed.
He worked late that evening, it was already past 11. All the others left the lab earlier, leaving him to do his work; even Mac, his boss had left before him. They must all have found something more pleasurable to do.
"If I could fall into the sky…" He felt like he is rather falling down always. Things didn't really went the way he wanted to.
"I'd really need something to fall… into Heaven" he thought to himself with a bitter smile. He got off and went up on the escalator to the street. He walked five minutes and he was at home.
He opened the door and stepped into his flat. He knew he didn't clean in the last few weeks, his clothes and all his stuff laid everywhere… but it didn't matter to him. But when he looked into the living room, he noticed that something was different. The room was definitely much cleaner than he had left it. He didn't see any socks on the floor, newspapers spread over the table, not even a single fleck of dust. He frowned and shook his head.
"Taylor…" he murmured and head for the kitchen.
As soon as he stepped inside, he saw bright light coming from the other side of the room. He went closer. Candles. Two candles were illuminating the small kitchen and the table, full of delicious food. At the other end of the table, a tall man was sitting with a smile on his face. He stood up when he saw Danny.
"Happy birthday, Messer." Mac said.
Danny looked at his watch – midnight had already passed. Really, it was his birthday, it didn't even came to his mind all day, he was so busy with work. But now he remembered… and Mac didn't forget about it. He came here, cleaned out, made dinner… and waited for him to arrive. Danny felt so thankful and touched, he couldn't say anything to Mac. He only walked round the table where he stood and kissed him.
Late at night, when Mac was already asleep beside him, Danny was still awake. He was thinking of the events of the previous day and the hours that already had passed from his birthday.
"If I could fall into the sky…" he sang to himself again. But this time, he knew he had really fallen, he felt like already being in Heaven.
