Title: Sudden Loss
Summary: The news that Lewis had been killed in a work place accident had hit her hard personally, but she knew that Bobby would take it even harder.
A/N: This was written as a response to the 'Quiet Me' prompt that I received on tumblr from entireoranges.
Alex hadn't seen or heard from Bobby in almost three months. Whatever had been going on with him at the time had to have been bad for him to ask for space. So when he'd had asked for space, she gave it to him. The news that Lewis had been killed in a work place accident had hit her hard personally, but she knew that Bobby would take it even harder. They'd been childhood best friends, and he'd been more of brother to him that his own brother had ever been.
She approached the front of the church, keeping her eyes locked on him as he stood off to the side. His body language had given off just enough of do not approach vibe that everyone else was steering clear of him, but she knew it was just his way of protecting himself.
She gently lay her hand on his arm when he didn't acknowledge that she'd walked up and stood next to him. "Bobby," she barely breathed, and just like that, the giant of a man had shattered in her arms. The tears came hot and fast, and his body shook with uncontrollable sadness. All she could do was wrap her small frame around his larger one and hold on tightly as he let himself go.
Her hand cradled the back of his head while her words quietly soothed in his ear. She herself was crying now, and she had forgotten that they were standing there amongst many strangers.
After he'd cried himself out, he gently placed his hands on her hips and looked down into her eyes. "I'm so glad you came. I wanted you to come. I wanted you here. With me."
His last words were a whisper as she lifted both her hands to his cheek and smiled sadly. "I didn't care how much space you said you needed. I needed to be here with you today."
He hugged her tightly again, holding on for a long moment before they pulled apart and found their sets all the while he held tightly to her hand.
