What Was He Thinking
"What was he thinking?" She rants to herself. She's down in the lab, by herself at the end of a long day, her music is off and she's pissed. "How could he even suggest such a thing?" She rants again.
Abby knows Gibbs is a smart man as long as is doesn't involve advanced technology, or science babble, so how could he even consider suggesting that she leave the team just because she got a little mad over being pulled in fourteen directions at once. Her anger ebbed away into a wave of hurt.
"I thought we were a family and families don't leave each other." She mumbled to herself.
"We are a family, Abbs." Gibbs said as he approached where she had been leaning on a stool with her back to him. She turned to face him. He knew what question would come next, 'why'. "I suggested it because you seemed so unhappy, and frankly I haven't seen you happy in a while. I thought that even though families stick together, they have to know when to let go too…" He trailed of as he brushed her cheek with his thumb, a stray tear coming away from her skin with his touch. "You corrected me though, although next time pick a different time and place to do it, ok?" He teased gently.
"I'm not sorry. That was deserved, because the suggestion should never have entered you mind, let alone crossed your lips." She leaned over and kissed his injured cheek lightly. "I will however keep such displays for a more private location, next time…. with the hopes that next time I wont have to slap you." She said it with a cheeky grin and he felt his lips twitch in response. Had it been anyone else but Abby, they would have been taken down, but he could never touch her in anger, or frustration. All he could feel for her was love and a tiny hint of impatience every once in a while. "So we're ok now, Gibbs?" She asked drawing his attention back to the present.
"Always, Abbs." He leaned forward to kiss her cheek, but she turned her head at just the right moment and his kiss landed on her lips. The feeling was electric. It felt like she could fly and her chest would explode all in the same moment.
"We're really good then." She said when they broke apart, laying her head on his chest.
"Gibbs…" She started to ask, but stopped when she saw the look on his face.
"I don't know Abbs, but we'll figure it out as we go, because we're family, and I don't want to lose you. I love you."
"I love you too." She answered and that sparked a full smile from him, which sent her heart fluttering all over again. "Do you think I could get away with threatening to have everyone arrested, who offers me a job? Just so there wont be anymore offers to cause great irritation." Abby asked after a moment.
"No, you're not intimidating enough. I'll do it for you." He suggested as they started walking out of the lab.
"You would, wouldn't you?" Gibbs just smiled and escorted her to her car.
"Follow me home, Abbs."
"Yes sir." She saluted and again his lips twitched. She would certainly make his life interesting.
