Johnny Tremain was working on a project of his own, when the door opened and the bell rang. He looked up to see a girl standing there.
"Hello ma'am, how may I help you?" he asked.
"Hello, I am looking for Mister Light. Is he in?" the girl asked.
"Oh, yes. Hold on a moment."
"Thank you." The girl said as Johnny went to get Mr. Light. The two entered the room together.
"Hello miss." Mr. Light said. "How may I help you?"
"This may sound odd, but do you think I could get an apprenticeship here?" the girl asked warily.
"Excuse me?" Mr. Light asked.
"I am the only child in my family, and my father is nearly dead. I would like somewhere to work, and I promise I could be a great help!" the girl pleaded.
"I'm not so sure about this…" Mr. Light pondered for a moment. "I'm sorry miss, I don't think I can take in another apprentice at the moment. I'll pray for your father."
"Oh. Thank you Mister Light. Goodbye." The girl turned for the door.
"Mr. Light, I can apprentice her!" Johnny shot out. The girl turned around to look at Johnny.
"Excuse me?" Mr. Light said.
"I can apprentice her! I've gotten great training from you, so maybe I could help her out. I'll find a way to give her a place to stay in my room even. I'll take care of her Mr. Light!" Johnny continued.
"Is that alright with you miss?" Mr. Light asked the girl.
"Oh that would be great!" the girl said happily.
"You start tomorrow. Johnny, take good care of her." Mr. Light said smiling.
"Oh thank you Mister Light! Thank you very much!" the girl said, now thrilled. She then turned to Johnny. "I would also like to thank you too, for helping me in my time of need. What is your name?"
"Johnny. Johnny Tremain." Johnny said smiling.
"I am Clara Johnson. Thank you very much Mister Tremain." Clara said.
"Call me Johnny."
"Thank you so much Johnny!" Clara shook his hand. "I must be going now. I'll see you tomorrow! God bless you!"
"See you tomorrow Clara!" Johnny waved to the girl as she ran out to the streets.
