Christmas gift-fic for Hika because I owe you one and I loves you, and for Marlena because if she hadn't invited me to her party last night then this would never have been thought up.
[Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?]
He dreams of fire and pain, of ashes in his face. There is a woman tempted by the Devil dressed as a God who doles out murder under the guise of compassion and righteousness; someone dear to him fades like cigarette smoke on the wind and he wakes up crying for a boy he's never met.
And suddenly Mama is there, petting his hair and whispering, Oh Mihael, Mihael it was only a dream. It isn't real, now go back to sleep.
Mihael closes his eyes and listens to Mama whisper about nothing in his ear until he's asleep again and the dreams return.
In the morning he tells Mama about the boy in white who's cold like ice, and how the other boy burned in a church under Jesus' gaze with no one left to cry for him because he let his best friend die in a rain of bullets for a cause he didn't believe in. Mama scolds him for blasphemy when he says he doesn't think even Jesus wanted to save the boy in the burning church.
It's less than a week later when she leaves him alone in front of the big house with the iron gate and the old man named Roger. He doesn't watch her go, and when Roger tells him he can't be Mihael anymore, he doesn't protest.
It's a pity Mama will never know her baby boy will one day bring down a God of false justice.
[Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered
Will soon deliver you]
