One Winter Evening

Neji stood impatiently by the Ichiraku Ramen stand; he had been instructed to meet Naruto there along with the rest of the gang.

Of course, Neji's punctuality meant he'd arrived a full ten minutes before everyone else had; his only companion was Hinata, who had come with him.

Hinata was busy staring at the sky, which was a dismal gray. The sun would set in about an hour, and as the temperature decreased, Hinata thought it was going to snow.

"Neji-nii-san," she began.

"What?" he snapped.

"I…I think it's going to snow," she breathed. Hinata loved snow, probably because her birthday was in December.

"Hn," was Neji's answer. He didn't like the cold, but snow was pretty, especially when it was falling.

He surreptitiously glanced at the clock on the store across the street. A minute until five; the others were going to be late.

Hinata shivered; she was wearing a heavy parka, but the temperature had suddenly dropped.

Without really thinking about it, Neji thrust out an arm and dropped his hand on her shoulder, causing Hinata's cheeks to burn at the close contact. Neji had also blushed, so he coughed and looked away.

"I don't want you to be cold," he mumbled.

"Hm," Hinata replied happily, scooting closer to Neji. He was radiating heat, and she had to resist snuggling up with him.

A few minutes passed like that before Neji made a noise of impatience and moved away.

"Everyone's five minutes late; what the heck is going on?!" he shouted. Hinata, however, was staring straight up, her eyes round.

"Neji-nii-san, it's snowing."

Neji stopped and looked up as well.

"So it is," he whispered.

Hinata smiled and grabbed his gloved hand. He looked at her, a little shocked at the gesture, but he squeezed her hand back.

"Hinata-sama…I don't think the others are coming," he finally admitted.

"I know," she replied, causing Neji's eyebrows to rise.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

Hinata smiled.

"They weren't invited."

When she kissed him, Neji couldn't believe how her cold lips could make him burning hot all over.
