The Step

He looked her straight in the eyes. "Are you ready?"

"I… think so."

"You think so?" He raised his eyebrow. "Come on, Rae, you have to know that you…"

"Don't call me Rae," she said, her voice soft. "And I don't know, Beast Boy. I think."

"Well, what can I do to convince you?"

"I don't know. Just… let's just do it," she said uncertainly.

He chuckled. "I don't know if it will… you know… work… if we're both uncomfortable."

"You're nervous?" she asked, surprised at the implication. "I thought you wanted this! You said you've been thinking about… this… doing this… for a long time…"

"I have, I really have!" He blushed as he spoke. "But… come on Rae, it's not like there aren't… possible consequences…"

"I know about those!"

"Right! So I may be a little nervous, I admit that. But that doesn't mean I don't want to try it!" He looked earnestly into her eyes. "I think… I think this is the next step! …for you and me. For us."

"You 'think'?" she asked, eyebrow cocked.

"No… I know." He moved closer to her side of the bed. "I know it. How long have we been dating now?"

"About three months," she said, without hesitation.

"Three months. And how comfortable have we gotten with each other?" he asked, lacing his fingers in hers.

"Comfortable," she said softly, looking down at their hands.

"We're so used to physical contact with each other that it's almost… almost natural now, you know? And that's all it will really be… just physical contact."

She rolled her eyes. "It's a little bit more than that…"

"But it's not! It's just a little more intimate than you're used to, that's all."

"Try a lot more."

"Okay, I admit, it's a big step. But come on… don't you think you're ready?"

There was some quiet as she thought.

"I'm just…" she began, her face serious and honest, "I'm just not sure if I was ever meant to… you know, If I was ever made to…"

"Raven, everyone was meant to experience this," he said, whispering intensely. "Just because you're part demonic doesn't mean you should miss out on the best things in life."

She looked down for a moment, in thought, and then looked up at him, looking for her final answer. "Does it really feel that good?"

He smiled, knowing that he had her. "Baby, it's the best feeling in the world." He kissed her softly. "So… you want to, then?" he asked.

She nodded.

And with that, Beast Boy tickled Raven.

He tickled Raven with the expertise that only a prankster could have, and he tickled her in every spot he could think of. Within seconds she was howling on the bed, laughing so hard she could barley catch her breath, grabbing at Beast Boy but making no attempt to stop him. As it continued, tears began to run down her face, and she squealed for mercy. He finally stopped and held her while her laugher slowly and happily died.

He glanced about the room, grin on his face. "Look! Nothing broke, and I'm still alive!" he said, happily nuzzling against her. "What did you think?"

Raven was looking up at the ceiling, her eyes glazed and her thoughts sheer bliss. A small smile was stuck on her face as she replied.

"It was …amazing."
