Flames: FINALLY! I HAVE COMPLETED IT! MY REQUEST FOR RUBYXSAPPHIRE! I'M SOOOOOOOOO SORRY THAT IT WAS SO LATE!!! ))))))))))))))): PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT I'LL WRITE ANOTHER ONE FOR YOU, RUBYXSAPPHIRE!!
It started out as a feeling, which then grew into a hope. Then it turned into a quiet thought, and then into a quiet word.
And then that word grew louder and louder, until it was about to cry.
"I'll come back, when you need me." He had said, "No need to say goodbye."
Then he had left.
It had been four years since then.
That phrase had been replaying in my mind for four years. I had forced myself to accept the fact that he wasn't coming back. He was gone. He had probably won the final contest. And then he had probably won another girl's heart.
"Why would he want me?" I asked myself, kicking a stone across the sand of Lilycove's beach.
I tucked a stray piece of hair behind my ear as I pondered that question.
I sighed and then went to sit on a nearby rock.
Today was September 20th. Another birthday that he had forgotten.
My pokegear started ringing.
I looked at my belt, before taking it out and looking at the caller ID.
I blinked and looked again.
It still said: Ruby.
I pressed the "answer" button, and put the receiver up to my ear.
"Hello?" I asked, slightly bewildered.
His voice was lower.
"Ruby!" I said, anger flaring up. "Why haven't you called me?! Where are you?! What's going on?!"
"Sapphire! Calm down!" Ruby said desperately.
"Explain yourself!" I yelled, earning odd looks from the couples on the beach. "How could you just leave, never calling?"
"I've been training."
I gave the sand a weird look. "So you've been in Sinnoh for the last FOUR YEARS?!"
"The contests over there are harsh, Sapph!"
"Obviously." I said.
"I called to wish you happy birthday."
I fell off of the rock. "What?"
"I know it's not the same, but I need you to do something for me."
"Say goodbye?" I asked bitterly, kicking the sand harshly.
"Of course not! You never needed to say goodbye! I'd come back when you needed me!"
"I've needed you for about four years." I stared at the ocean, realizing what I had just said.
Ruby was silent.
I was silent.
We were back to the beginning. It's just a feeling and no one knows yet.
"I need you to do something for me." He repeated.
"What…?" I said.
I froze, and then slowly began to turn.
At the end of the beach, far away from where I stood, there was a familiar figure.
I was ready to punch him. Hard. In the gut.
"What are you doing here?" I asked tonelessly.
"Waiting for you." He said.
I glared at him, tears blurring my vision. NO! THE BUTT-KICKING SAPPHIRE WOULD NOT CRY IN FRONT OF RUBY!!
He began to run over. I plopped down in the sand on my knees.
He was standing in front of me.
The ground suddenly became very interesting to look at.
"What do you want?" I asked menacingly.
"I'm sorry." He hung his head. I looked up at him.
"You should be."
There was an awkward silence.
"Why did you—" I started to say,
I suddenly felt something hugging me very tight.
I blinked, a blush furiously appearing on my face. Crap.
"I came back when it was over. There is no need to say goodbye."
I knew it. And he knew it.
We were at the beginning, but the beginning of a new story.
He put something into my hand. "Happy Birthday, Sapphire."
I looked down to my hand to see a perfectly star-shaped sapphire, hanging on a silver chain.
It was the best birthday I had ever had.
Flames: Was that too cheesy? Let me know. It was a request for RUBYXSAPPHIRE! I love you all! If you got any other requests, let me know!!
