Author's Note:

This takes place in the For Good timeline, over 35 years before the movie, and will be further fleshed-out in the future my series. Also, the title comes from a book about a Titanic true story, called Nothing Can Separate Us.

One last time, let me reiterate that… Watermark is coming!!

==Nothing Can Separate Us==

Come stop your crying

It'll be all right

Just take my hand

Hold it tight

I will protect you from

All around you

I will be here

Don't you cry

~*~

For one so small

You seem so strong

My arms will hold you

Keep you safe and warm

This bond between us

Can't be broken

I will be here

Don't you cry

– "You'll Be in My Heart," Phil Collins

He didn't know what was going on; he only knew that he wanted it to stop. Everywhere, red lights were flashing, and alarms were blaring. It was scary, and he was crying.

"Shhh, it's okay, honey, it's okay." Mama was trying to comfort him, but he didn't want to be comforted.

"Stohp id, Mama," he cried.

Mama was running with him down a hallway, with a lot of other people. They were scared, too – he could tell. "It's okay, everyone!" Mama shouted. "Just keep moving! Get to the escape pods and we'll be all right!" That was his Mama, all right. Mama was strong and brave – she always knew what to do. She could handle any situation, just like Nana. Two-year-old though he was, he knew that.

People were scrambling to get into the pods. Mama was the only Space Ranger there, so she took charge. "Women and children first!" she called. "Women and children first! Come on, keep moving!"

"The fire's getting closer!" someone screamed.

"Stay calm and keep moving!" Mama repeated.

One by one, the escape pods jetted away from the burning cruiser, until there was only one pod left, and that was full to bursting.

But he, Mama, and a fair amount of the ship's crew were still onboard. Mama looked she was ready to cry, and that just wasn't right. Mama never cried. "Sally, Sally!" she called.

He knew Sally – Sally was one of Mama's friends, and she had been traveling with them. Now, she was in the escape pod. "Sally, take him!" Mama urged.

Him?? Mama passed him into Sally's waiting arms. What was going on?

"Miranda…"

"Take him to Mom – she'll take care of him. Promise me, Sally." Mama's azure eyes were pleading.

"I promise, Miranda," Sally nodded, her voice thick.

Mama nodded, and bent over to kiss him one last time. "I love you, honey. And I'll always be with you – just remember that. Not even death can separate us. I love you."

Then she straightened, and moved back. The airlock closed, and the pod jetted away from the ship.

Mercifully, he didn't see the cruiser burst into flames.

And though Nana was the one who raised him, he never forgot his true mother. She was right – not even death could separate them.

When Destiny calls you

You must be strong

(You gotta be strong)

I may not be with you

But you've got to hold on…

Chorus:

You'll be in my heart

(Believe me) you'll be in my heart

(I'll be there) from this day on

Now and forevermore

You'll be in my heart

(You'll be here in my heart)

No matter what they say

(I'll be here)

You'll be here in my heart

Always

Always… I'll be with you

Oh, I'll be there for you always

Always and always

Just look over your shoulder

Just look over your shoulder

Just look over your shoulder

I'll be there

Always
