Damn

He's standing over her, a playful glint in his eyes and she can barely take it.

It's just too much.

For the past hour he's done nothing but watch her and give her pointed looks and it's way past time that she threw him out.

She shoots him a glare. "Mal, I'm not telling you again," she says warningly.

He grins. Cockily. "Oh yeah?"

She doesn't say anything but grits her teeth.

"C'mon, Inara! Just say it. Say it an' I'll go."

She's tempted to tell him there and then, but…

No.

"You can wait for Christmas like everybody else."

He only tries to find out what Inara got him for Christmas because he doesn't rightly know what to get her. If stealing a look at her present to him means getting some idea of that, then so be it.

He stands over her, watches her, for nearly an hour.

"Mal, I'm not telling you again," she says. Her eyes are alight with passion that makes his stomach churn.

He forces a grin. "Oh yeah?"

Nothing.

"C'mon, Inara! Just say it. Say it an' I'll go."

Her eyes narrow.

He waits.

"You can wait for Christmas like everybody else."

Damn.
