The first thing Daniel hears when he opens the door to Sam's lab is, "this isn't what it looks like." He comes to an abrupt halt and is immediately awarded with a visual to go along with the welcoming words.

Jack has Sam pushed up against her desk and their bodies are pressed snugly together.

From the doorway, Daniel quirks an eyebrow in disbelief and stares at his friends. He focuses in particular on Sam whose blouse is hanging open, the top few buttons undone most likely by Jack's deft fingers. Jack, beside her, pierces him with a disgruntled glare. His eyes are dark and liquid brown and so very deadly.

"You know what?" Jack continues, sending a chill of fear coursing through Daniel's blood. "This is what it looks like," he says. "And we'd appreciate it, as much as we usually enjoy your company, Daniel, if you'd get the hell out of here and pretend you didn't see this."

Daniel gulps and slowly backs away. He catches Sam's eyes before he turns, hoping for a little compassion. "I... I'm sorry, guys," he tells them awkwardly.

Sam rolls her eyes and shakes her head softly. He suspects the beginning of a grin on her face but he can't be certain. "Yeah, yeah. Just go, Daniel, would you?"

Jack nods his agreement.

Realising his presence is more than unwelcome at this very moment, Daniel nods back. ", guys," he utters pathetically before he flees. He closes the door behind him and sinks back against it, caught somewhere between shock and breathing out in relief.

At that exact moment, Janet walks up to him. "Daniel," she greets him. "How're you doing?"

"Scarred for life, just about," he mutters under his breath. He straightens up and blocks the door with his frame.

He forces his eyes up to hers. "Uh...nevermind," he brushes off. "How are you?"

"I'm great, thanks. I was just on my way to see Sam – "

"No! She's...busy."

"I'm sure she won't mind if I pop in for a minute."

"Trust me. Now is not a good time."

"Daniel, I'm her friend. I'm sure she won't mind if I drop in just for a little while."

Sighing, Daniel shakes his head. "She's in there with Jack," he explains.

"She's with Jack," he repeats. "I didn't want to say anything, but..."

"Oh. Oh!"

Janet sucks her bottom lip into her mouth and studies him thoughtfully. "Hmmm, well if Sam's busy with Jack," she says slowly, "we could always wait in your office." There's something behind her words that he doesn't recognise at first. And then she winks at him.

Daniel gulps and nods in the direction of his office. "Let's go and 'wait' then."

Twenty minutes later, the door to his office springs open and Jack and Sam stop short in the doorway.

Janet stiffens under Daniel's weight.

"This isn't what it looks like."
