It isn't until later, when he stops to think about it, that he realizes.

"She kissed me," he says, bewildered, to Matt.

"You mean, before?"

"Yeah, I mean before!"

"She kissed me too," he shrugged.

"Yeah, but didn't she kiss you on the cheek?"

"She kissed me." He lowered his voice.

"What is this, middle school? Did you 'lip-kiss the new girl?'"

"Shut up!"

They sat in silence for a moment.

"I just found it strange, is all."

"Uh huh."

"You're making a weird face at me now."

"You deserve it."

"Why does this matter?" Matt demanded. "Maybe she likes you, maybe she wants to get into your pants, maybe she was tipsy and her aim was off. Apparently she has a history of being drunk."

Danny didn't really have anything to say to that.

"You have a crush." Matt concluded.

"What the hell are you two arguing about?" Harriet walked over.

"Danny's confused by his crush on Jordan."

"Matt's confused by—I AM NOT!"

"OKAY!" He shot back.

"Okay! This has been fun." Harriet finished with sarcasm, leaving the idiot boys to their business.

They were silent again. Matt wasn't really sure what was happening now, but he knew he wanted to stick along for the ride.

"Have you ever had a boss just come up and kiss you?"

"Yes, but that's just landed me in a ton of trouble. Of course, you are much…"

"More level—shut up!—much more level-headed than me. So you two could probably make it work."

"I'm not planning on dating her."

"I'm not."

"I'm not," he said quietly, trying to convince himself.

Matt suppressed a laugh. It was going to happen.
