Happy She's Alive (Psych Love Drabble/Ficlet Series)
By Andie O'Neill
Genre: Humor, Romance
Summary: For the record, Gus was happy Jules was alive.
A/N: So out of pure boredom and because I was stuck at a stupid ALL DAY seminar, I've written a bunch of Psych drabbles. I call it "Psych Love Drabble/Ficlet Series" (awesome title, I know.)
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters or the show.
Gus had never been much of a hero growing up, but given a challenge… he rarely backed down, and with Juliet O'Hara in jeopardy Gus had no choice but to prove Shawn wrong. Of course he cared about Juliet! He didn't want to see her hurt anymore than Shawn did. They'd been watching from the sidelines as the girls zoomed fast around the derby track and when they'd realized what the other girls were planning to do Gus had immediately grabbed the skates, swallowed his fears, and charged into the chaos to save Juliet. He'd flown down the track on pure adrenaline and could sense Shawn's shout that he was going to get himself killed. When he'd seen the women on the track he'd silently agreed with his friend, but it hadn't mattered because Juliet was in danger and he was going to protect her… one way or another.
In the end he'd banged his hip, twisted his ankle, and bruised his arm… but it was worth all the pain and sore bones to see Juliet come out of the race alive and well. Gus sighed, watching Shawn and Juliet talk, and silently wishing she would notice him the way she noticed Shawn. Leaning down he undid his skate strings, wincing as he agitated bruised bones. He jumped when he felt a sudden hand on his back. Gus looked up, surprised to see Juliet sitting beside him, smiling that beautiful smile that always turned him to goo. "I never did thank you for what you did," she told him.
Gus could feel his face grow warm, and silently thanked whoever was responsible for his dark complexion because he was sure he was blushing. He couldn't help notice even as he sat up, that her hand never left his back, and his skin tingled delightfully at the contact. "Oh… it's not a big deal. I couldn't just stand by and let them pummel you."
Juliet's smile only grew, and Gus swallowed hard as she leaned forward and kissed his cheek shyly. "Thank you, Gus."
Gus could barely breath, barely move and the surprise kiss and watched as Juliet pulled away and stood. He couldn't just let her go, but he was currently drawing a blank on what the hell he should say. "Uh… Juliet?"
Juliet turned back to look at him. "Yes Gus?" she asked.
Gus flushed, feeling like a teenager talking to the most popular girl in school. "I'm uh… really happy your alive," he told her, his heart beating so fast he was sure it'd burst out his chest.
Juliet's laughed. "Uh… thanks," she told him and turned back around, skating off to join the others.
Gus smiled, kicking off the skates, suddenly feeling six feet tall. "Oh yeah… I still got it," he muttered to himself and leaned back in his chair, before he remembered his injuries and let out a whimper. Oh well, it'd been worth the bruises….
