Obi Wan Kenobi. Jedi Knight. Warrior.

Here he was, watching his oldest friend walk towards him, bright, blood red lightsabre drawn. In truth, he knew very well that he could defeat Darth Vader again. But in his heart, he considered himself far too tired to carry on. Far too old. He was in his fifties, but he looked, acted and felt much older. He felt now, that it was time

"I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan," the Dark Lord – his former friend – told him. "We meet again at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now, I am the master!"

So like Anakin. He hadn't changed that much.

Obi Wan shook his head slightly. No. Anakin Skywalker had died, murdered himself along with the Jedi at the Temple. This – thing – was Darth Vader, all of Anakin removed, burned, destroyed…

"Only a master of evil, Darth!" he said, full of resolve. And then it began. They were both older now, and Kenobi remembered the fury in their last duel – this was tame by comparison, two men swinging swords.

"Your powers are weak, old man," Darth Vader said. He brought his sabre down on Kenobi, who blocked it. Kenobi silently thanked the Force for Soresu.

"You cannot win, Darth," Kenobi said. He sighed, and raised his sabre to block another blow. "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

"You should not have come back," Darth said.

Kenobi knew it. He shouldn't have come here. he had had the feeling that Darth Vader would wait for him.

And then he saw Luke. He raised his eyebrows and watched the youth, and then, he smiled.

He turned to Vader, and reached out with his telepathy, to touch his former Padawans mind. He felt the hatred, but his message got through.

"Goodbye, Anakin."

He raised his blade in front of his face.

Vader swung.

In the instant before Kenobi let the Force claim his form, he thought of all his friends.

Cody. Comrade. I forgive you.

Luke – the Force will be with you. I swear it.

Ahsoka Tano – good came from Anakin, and there will be good again.

Master Yoda – my finest teacher.

Master Qui Gon – without whom none of this would have happened. I wouldn't have traded a second.

Asajj Ventress – I pray you found peace.

Mace Windu – an honour to have fought by your side.

Anakin… I still love you. I wish there was some other path.

Goodbye.

He vanished.
