The original six were trying to keep the bitter confrontation private. Flash had whisked the few bystanders out. Green Lantern was barricading the other entryway. Jonn was manning the center and sending too many heroes Earth side for minor crisis. Diana guarded this door, letting her eavesdrop on the accusations. The gossip was going to be wild on the Watchtower.

Superman was trying to mediate.

Batman and Nightwing faced each other, neither one giving an inch. Robin and Batgirl were trying not to take sides and in doing so, Nightwing was assuming that they were against him. They were all so stubborn. Finally Nightwing stomped away in anger. Robin and Batgirl disappeared.

Batman stood there, not listening to Superman's advice. In the middle of it all, Batman turned and walked away.

Superman threw his hands up in frustration. He wandered over to Diana and with a wry smile said, "To err is human, to forgive divine."

Diana shook her head. "And Bruce doesn't do either."

"Neither does Dick."

"I noticed."

They fell silent. All of the Justice League had hard stories in their background, but Batman couldn't move on from his past. He couldn't forgive, neither himself nor anyone else.
