-------------------------------------------

It was seven in the evening as Gibbs, Ziva, Tony and McGee all stood in the parking garage, guns pointed at the suspect. John Brady stood their, shaking, also with a gun in his hand, not sure what to do. He felt cornered.

"You don't want to do this John." Gibbs said in a commanding yet firm tone. "Put your gun DOWN."

"No.... nonononono." He said quickly, stringing the words together and stuttering. "I.... I-I-I c-c-c-an't go back to prison. I CAN'T. You d-d-don't understand what it's l-l-l-ike. Please NO! I CAN'T TAKE IT!!!" and he raised his gun, pointing it at Tony.

"DON'T DO IT JOHN!" Gibbs tried again

A single shot rang through the night air.

Time seemed to freeze.

Tony stood their, a look of shock on his face.

No. He thought.

This couldn't be happening.

It shouldn't be happening.

Not now.

Not ever.

Gibbs and McGee ran to where Ziva had fallen. At the last second she had dove in front of Tony. Taking the bullet for him. He stood there. All rational thought draining slowly from him. All sound fading into the distance. "Put pressure on the wound. Harder McGee. Stay with us. Come on Ziva!! Your don't have permission to die! STAY WITH US!!!"

But at the same time Tony knew. She was already gone. There was no saving her. Her did the only thing he could think to do at the moment and shot the bastard who had taken the most important thing to him away from him. Gibbs ignored the sound of the gunshots, still trying to save Ziva's life, fighting back tears.

Sirens were heard in the distance. Tony walked over to where Gibbs and McGee were now only standing, staring down at the body of their friend. He knelt down and took her into his arms, unable to cry. He just held her, rocking her slowly.

He imagined the laughter that would never again brighten his day, and her smile that would never again light up her face. Staring at what should be the beautiful, chocolate brown eyes that would never again open, he clung to her as the paramedics tried to take her away, refusing to let her go as the last warmth left her body. Gibbs held him back as they pried him off of her and led him out of the way to let them pass.

He just stood their silently as Gibbs and McGee got into their separate cars and followed the ambulance to the hospital. Tony couldn't move. He couldn't feel. And as the last sounds of the siren faded into the distance he collapsed onto the ground, sobbing.
