Short and sweet :)
It's my first attempt at a Yu Yu Hakusho fanfiction! Yay! I'd love if you left a review. (It kinda has a lame title, though. Heh.)

Kuwabara checked his watch. Twelve-fifteen.

Ah… Shizuru was going to kill him.

His curfew was midnight, and getting home any later than that always resulted in several hard, merciless whaps to the back of the head by his older sister. With this in mind, Kuwabara figured being another few minutes late wouldn't really matter.

He walked the dimly-lit streets of town, slowly approaching his home. He was alert; glancing over his shoulder and to his sides every minute or so incase of potential thugs. Not that the mighty Kazuma Kuwabara was afraid. He just didn't want to be caught off guard.

"Gah!" Kuwabara cried, jumping in surprise.

He looked down. Emerging from behind a metal trashcan was a small, black-and-white kitten, with dirt covering its nose and paws.

Kuwabara breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, hey, cat. You scared me for a second there."

The kitten rubbed affectionately against Kuwabara's leg, purring.

"Huh?" He blinked. "What's wrong? Are you hungry?"

The kitten mewed once more.

Kuwabara reached into each of his pockets. He pulled out some lint, a candy wrapper, and some loose change. "Uh, sorry. But I don't have any food for you."

The kitten continued rubbing against his leg.

Bending down, Kuwabara scratched the kitten's ears, then stroked its fur. The kitten continued to purr and mew happily.

"Aw, you're kinda cute, aren't you?" he said, getting to his feet. "Well, I better get going. I don't want my sister to freak out."

He proceeded to walk down the sidewalk. He was only a few blocks away from home. Kuwabara stopped, and glanced behind his shoulder. Sitting a few feet behind him was the kitten.

"Aw, come on. You can't follow me home. Shizuru doesn't want another cat."

The kitten cocked its head to the side.

"Hn," murmured Kuwabara, and continued walking. He rounded a corner, then looked back. The kitten was still following. He picked up his pace, trying to get away from the furry follower. Finally, he broke out into a run. He flew down the sidewalk and made it to the front of his home. He could see lights on in the house, and knew Shizuru was still awake.

He looked down to see the kitten.

Come to think of it, it was supposed to be cold tonight. And the poor kitten looked like it hadn't eaten in a while.

Kuwabara glanced at the door, then back at the kitten. "Well, I suppose Eikichi wouldn't mind a friend…" he muttered, scooping the kitten - still purring - into his arms. "And maybe I can make Shizuru bend the rules just this once."

Smirking, he held the kitten up to his face, and it licked his cheek.

"Aw, don't worry little guy. I promise I'll find you a good home if Shizuru says no."

The kitten mewed, and Kuwabara chuckled.
