The spaces between your fingers were created so someone could fill them.
A challenge response.
"Mitchie? Why are there spaces between our fingers?" Shane asked one evening as they were running from the lake. They had just gone for their customary last-day-of-camp-canoe-ride-and-near-death-experience and were trying to get out of the cold as quickly as possible.
"Shane, what kind of question is that?" Mitchie asked, pulling the sweatshirt closer around her shoulders.
"I don't know; I'm just asking."
"Find out and tell me," she replied, before kissing him on the cheek and scampering into her cabin. "Bye, Shane!"
Shane waved and called back, "Bye Mitch."
Rolling over and feeling around on her bed-side table for the source of the annoying beep-beep-beep that was disturbing her sleep. Clutching her phone and the edge of the nightstand, she pulled herself upright.
ONE NEW TEXT MESSAGE FROM SHANE
Mitchie groaned and opened the message. What was Shane texting her about at 3:30 am?
found answer to question. cya tomorrow, mitch.
What question? Mitchie rubbed her eyes and tried to think about what Shane was talking about this time. Question?
Concluding that she had forgotten whatever it was that was bothering Shane, she went back to sleep, promising herself she'd figure it out after at least six hours of sleep.
"Call me as soon as you reach home, 'kay, Mitchie?" Shane mumbled into his girlfriend's shoulder. Mitchie nodded, blinking back tears.
"See you at the concert in three weeks, Shane," Mitchie replied, kissing his cheek. Shane took her small hand into his larger calloused one.
"A perfect fit," he whispered, satisfied.
"What are you talking about?"
"The spaces between my fingers are the right size to hold your hand. Don't you see how they fit together like puzzle pieces?"
"I love you."
A/N: I tag Goode Girl, who was warned before hand. The quote she's doing is The truth is… everyone's going to hurt you. You just have to decide who's worth the pain. I also tag SilverAurora, if she's done being MIA. :) Well, this was fun to write, even if it didn't turn out that good. :D Enjoy wonderful people.
