Jack really didn't know why he was grocery shopping in the middle of the night.

He would never do such a thing usually; he'd send Jonathan instead, or Kenneth. But C.C. had requested a Western omelette at 3 a.m. and he had been unable to change her mind, even after trying to sweet-talk her to the sound of John Legend. But you couldn't sweet-talk a politician, and much less a damn democrat. She had fought for that omelette just like she had fought for those (supposedly) orange children.

And there he was, buying ham and cheese himself because it was too early to call Jonathan. Oh God how he hated being in love sometimes! That was such a demanding and painful thing. But, on the other hand, he did get to have amazing sex with the smartest (and most stubborn) woman he had ever known. And yeah, that statement included Condee Rice.

Jack checked out of the grocery store and quickly walked back to his apartment around the block. Acting like the commonest of men was completely worth it if it meant going home to C.C.

And having a great night of doing it.
