It was in the late hours of the night that House realised something - he had never told Wilson that he loved him.. Not once in the 2 years they had been together had he uttered the three words. He looked down at Wilson, fast asleep next to him, and smiled at the sight of the Oncologist, his face pressed into the pillow and his usually immaculate hair pointing every which way.
He was startled by a car going past, the light shining across the room. Something caught Houses' eye, visible from the passing light. He carefully slid out of the bed and limped over to the calendar by the door. He scanned it, noticing nothing out of the ordinary, and almost turned around when he saw that one date was circled with bright pink highlighter, and had writing in it. He squinted closer, trying to make out what it said in the dark, and when he did he almost lost his balance with shock.
"One year & counting."
House groped for the bedpost to try and keep himself upright, but failed miserably and ended up falling onto the bed. The date circled was tomorrows date! However, a quick glace backwards told him it was now today's date. It was his and Wilson's 2 year anniversary and he had both forgotten it, but also he hadn't brought his lover anything! House climbed back into bed, and couldn't suppress a smile as Wilson groggily opened one eye and rubbed the sleep away.
"Where'd you go?"
"Nowhere," House whispered, brushing a strand of hair from Wilson's forehead. "Go back to sleep."
"I felt you get up, and saw where you went. Don't worry, I didn't do anything too fancy." Wilson said with a sheepish smile, that slowly faded when House slowly sat upright. "What's wrong?"
House didn't say anything, just fidgeted with the duvet. Wilson moved so he was leaning on his elbow, and stopped House's hands by entwining their fingers.
"Greg? What is it? I'm sure you can tell me…"
House took a deep breath, looked Wilson in the eye and decided it was now or never.
"I love you. Like, full blown, forever - type love. As in, I want to spend the rest of my life with you because I love you too damn much. When you have to go to stupid Oncology lectures or have to work late, I don't do anything, just sit and wait until you walk through the door. And -"
"Greg.. Sshh… you can stop now, I think I get it…" Wilson had moved into a sitting position, and slid his arm around Houses' waist, his other hand never moving from its spot - curled around Greg's' hand.
"I love you too. Very much. And I know how hard it was for you to say that, but I just wish you would say it more often." Wilson tightened his hold on House, but he managed to crane his neck and softly kiss his lover's cheek.
"I love you…" House said, before his head slowly fell onto Wilson's shoulder, eyes closed, already softly snoring.
Wilson carefully manoeuvred both of them so that they were lying down again, House sub-consciously curling around Wilson. He pressed a kiss on the top of his lovers head, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
