Light and Shade
She remembers meeting him just a year ago, determined and hopeful, a shade she remembers from herself before Hell. Even when fighting the forces of darkness, his eyes were always full of light. Almost as if he were determined to rise above it all, as if he had what he needed to keep from drowning.
She doesn't see that now. He slouches, a bottle in one hand, looks at her with his grim half-smile. There is plenty of light in the room, it frames his face, but now it disappears when it reaches his eyes.
Loss. Another shade of herself.
