A/N: Just a cute moment between Emmett and a young Nessie.
Nessie's Bedtime Story
Reneemse stood next to Emmett, her teddy bear in one hand and a book in the other. She watched him playing his video game until he glanced at her. "What's up squirt?" She held up the book and waggled it. He gave her a dubious look. "Is it a good one this time?" By that he meant was it a short book. Reneesme placed her palm against Emmett's neck and showed him the story. Emmett grinned at her. He laid down the game controller and scooped up Reneesme setting her on his lap. Reneesme settled against his chest.
"Once upon a time there was a littlegirl named Nessie-locks."
Reneesme looked up at Emmett and shook her head. She placed her small hand against his neck and showed him an image of Rosalie. Emmett smiled. "I guess she does look a little bit like Goldilocks, doesn't she?"
Emmett began again: "Once upon a time there was a little girl named Goldilocks. She went for a walk in the forest. Pretty soon she came upon a house." Reneesme showed Emmett the forest around the Cullen house and the house itself. "She knocked and, when no one answered, she walked right in." Reneesme pressed her palm firmly against Emmett's cheek and showed him that someone had, indeed, answered the door: Carlisle and Esme. They were smiling and beckoning Rosalie to come inside. Emmett raised his eyebrows and said, "Who's telling this story?"
Emmett continued. "At the table, in the kitchen, there were three bowls of porridge." Emmett felt Reneesme's face brushing against his chest as she shook her head. He sighed. "What? That's what it says. Right. Here." Emmett tapped the page with his forefinger. He snickered when Reneesme changed the contents of the bowls of porridge. The first bowl contained grizzly bear, the second: mountain lion, and the third: deer. She showed Rosalie (aka Goldilocks) pick up a hand-sized grizzly bear from the first bowl, taste it, and grimace. She did the same with the mountain lion, but drained all the deer.
Reneesme glanced up at Emmett, waiting. "Is it my turn now?" Reneesme nodded. He scanned the story and read: "After she'd eaten the three bears' breakfasts, she decided she was feeling a little tired."
Emmett now saw Rosalie (aka Goldilocks) ascending the stairs. She stopped in Alice and Jasper's bedroom first and crawled onto their bed. She stood up and tried to jump up and down but there was no bounce in the mattress so she jumped to the floor and entered Edward's old room. The bed in that room didn't allow Goldilocks to fly too high so she left and entered the third room, his and Rosalie's. Goldilocks jumped higher and higher and higher until the bed broke. Emmett threw back his head and laughed out loud, startling Reneesme. She gave him a questioning look. He shook his head. The kid sure didn't miss much, did she?
Reneesme tapped the book, so Emmett picked up the story: "Goldilocks was very tired by this time, so she went upstairs to the bedroom." Emmett frowned. "She already did that, so what does she do next?" Reneesme narrowed her eyes in thought.
Rosalie (aka Goldilocks) was standing just inside the open garage looking at three cars: Edward's Volvo, Emmett's Jeep, and Alice's Porsche. Rosalie took Edward's Volvo first but was clearly frustrated by the lack of speed. She turned up her nose at the Jeep: it lacked glamour. When she drove the Porsche it was just right. And the color matched her hair.
Emmett roared with laughter. He plucked Reneesme off his lap and set her next to him on the sofa to keep from crushing her as he doubled over, laughing hysterically. "Oh…Nessie…that was THE best story ever." Reneesme grinned and clapped as Emmett laughed and laughed and laughed.
