So, I signed up for a Last Fiction Writer Standing contest on LJ and this is my story from the first round (I passed this round, if you're curious). Just thought I would share with you. The prompt was to write a missing scene before Season 5. The quote is from season 4, but the actually "missing scene" takes place right after Hiatus. Hope you enjoy!

The Beginning of the Summer

Did you, or did you not sleep with him?"

"Anthony DiNozzo, your new team leader."

"Why do you ask that?"

"Starting three months ago, Ziva, he's been visiting your apartment at least one night a week."

Season 4, Episode 1 - Shalom

It was the first night that Gibbs had left. Tony had offered to give Ziva a ride home, and she had accepted. The day's events had shaken her to her core. She had lost the one person that she could depend on entirely; she had lost her only father figure. Gibbs had taught her how to trust, and now, he was gone. She laid her head against the headrest wearily.

"Are you okay?" Tony asked, looking over at his partner, a worried look on his face. Ziva turned her head and gave a half hearted attempt at a smile.

"I am fine, Tony. Just…" she trailed off, not knowing how to describe what she felt.

"Mentally exhausted?" Tony asked, supplying an expression for her.

"Yes," Ziva said, turning her head back to look out of the window. Tony reached across the seat and put his free hand on top of hers. Surprisingly, she didn't pull her hand away. Instead, she moved her thumb so it was on top of his and squeezed.

"It's just that," Ziva began, turning to look at Tony once more, "I was starting to adjust, and now I have to adjust to something else. Do you know what I mean?"

"Yeah," Tony said absentmindedly. His own mind was in turmoil. He felt as though he had just lost his father, even though his own chump father was alive and well in New York. Gibbs had always been more than a boss to him, he was like a father. Tony remembered the time that he had been drugged and kidnapped, and how Gibbs had stayed at his house the night after so he wouldn't have to be alone. Gibbs at Bethesda when Tony had the pneumonic plague, telling him he wouldn't die.

Tony was driving in autopilot and he almost didn't hear Ziva say "Tony, we are here." Tony looked up and saw that they were indeed, at Ziva's apartment.

"Thank you for driving me," Ziva said as she unbuckled her seat belt. She was about to get out of the car, when Tony grabbed her hand again.

"Ziva, I," Tony trailed off. Ziva saw the struggle in his eyes and asked what he wouldn't.

"Would you like to come in?"
