Licking her spoon happily, Sam sighed. Chocolate cake. So, so damn good. Especially on an eighteenth birthday! She settled back on the Shay couch, temporarily sated. "Okay, I admit it Spence, you're a food god."

"Finally! Someone who recognizes my talent!" He dumped Carly's and Freddie's dishes into the sink to soak and headed back out to the living room.

"You're so talented my stomach actually kind of hates you now." She patted her full belly.

Plopping down on the couch next to Sam, Spencer sighed. "So, I shouldn't inform your stomach that I have a stash of Caramel Chip ice cream in the freezer?"

"Well, now, I wouldn't say that." She opened an eye and peered at him. "My stomach is quick to forgive." She sat up with a quiet groan. "Give me five minutes, then… get me a bowl."

Spencer snorted. "You are soooo not a guest in this house; you can get your own bowl."

"Hey! Birthday girl here!"

"Hey! Tired food god here!"

She slumped back against the couch with a scowl. Then she smiled slyly. "We'll get Carls and Freddie to get us both bowls!"

"…If they ever get back from the store with that thingy that Freddie needs to make his thingy work!" Spencer paused then added, "that didn't sound quite as dirty in my head as it did out loud."

Sam smirked at him. "I'm so going to give Freddie crap about his 'thingy' not working."

"Never pick on a guy about his 'thingy'. Especially about his non-working 'thingy'. It's demoralizing."

She grinned at him teasingly, "Speaking from experience, Spence?"

He straightened up on the couch. "No! Erh, no. Uh, how about I get that bowl for you now?"

Ignoring his question, Sam turned to face him on the couch, curling her legs up next to her as she teased Spencer a bit more. "If I remember correctly, you have had some experience with non-working thingies."

He gulped as he looked at her. Tease. "Well, well, um, my thingies work when they really need to work."

"Uh huh." Sam smiled as Spencer struggled for a comeback. Then she let him off the hook. "Never mind Spence," she patted his knee soothingly. "I'm sure all of your 'things' and 'stuffs' work just fine… when you need them to."

Funny how she thought she was letting him off the hook; only to find herself on a hook all of her own.

Spencer suddenly leaned forward, one of his hands atop hers, the other, at the back of her head. His mouth touched hers – lightly; tasting the softness of her lips, the whisper of sweet chocolate on her skin. As he backed away, her eyes fluttered open and her warm breath combined with his. Brushing a strand of hair away from her cheek, he murmured, "All of my things work… when I need them to."
