"It's entirely unnecessary, Miss Rockbell." Roy smiled at the young girl, wishing he could rise from his hospital bed to greet her properly but at this point his brain was addled with pain killers. Besides, the doctors had the nurses all but strap him down, his leg suspended off the bed in the most uncomfortable way possible.

Winry set the plant down on the windowsill. "Nonsense. It's the least I can do." The mechanic did what several nurses had already done; press on one of the exposed toes of his injured leg until it blanched then watched it go pink again. He assumed it had something to do with blood flow. "You nearly lost a leg trying to keep Ed and Alphonse safe. Besides, it's just a basil plant, something you can use once you're out of here."

"More likely while I'm in here." Roy laughed. "Hospital food needs all the help it can get. Thank you, Miss Rockbell." Roy studied her for a moment. "How are you holding up?"

"Better, now that Al is recovering. It's going to take some time before he'll be able to walk again," she said, sitting next to Roy's bed. "Can Edward come home?" Her blue eyes seemed as fragile as cobalt glass.

"I know you hated me for taking the brothers away," Roy said softly. "I'm very glad to be able to give them back to you. I'll do everything I can to get Edward out of the military as quickly as possible, if that's what he wants." Roy smiled at her. "Believe me, Miss Rockbell I'd be glad to give you back Edward's leash. He's a very bad dog."

She laughed. "What makes you think I can control Edward better than you?"

"Trust me, Miss Rockbell, you possess all the right attributes for controlling Edward," Roy replied, making her flush.

Winry steeled her jaw. "Sometimes I wonder about that. He never seems to notice."

"He does seem to be an idiot in that area but I'm sure you'll be able to show him the light. If not, just hit him with one of those infamous wrenches of yours." Roy smirked. "I just hope I'm around to see it."

"If he's misbehaving enough, you just might get your wish," Winry said and when Roy beamed, she added, "And if you provoke him into it, I'll hit you with a wrench somewhere, too."

"Consider me warned."
