"I'm heading back to Suna tomorrow," Temari told him.

Shikamaru took a moment too long to respond, and she bit her lip.

"So soon?" he asked.

"The war is over," Temari pointed out. "What's keeping me here?"

"Konoha might need you," Shikamaru replied.

"Suna might need me," Temari retorted.

Shikamaru paused again before tenderly taking her hand in his own.

"And if I need you?" he proposed.

Temari squeezed his hand.

"Then you will wait," she said, smiling genuinely at last.

"I guess I have nothing better to do now anyway," Shikamaru shrugged, smiling back.

"No surprise there," Temari smirked.
