It was Saturday morning which meant that the Britannia High students had the day off. It was a beautiful warm July day and it was close to the summer holidays. Jez had woken up particularly late as he had a hangover. Danny, BB and himself had been up all night playing drunken strip poker and all Jez could remember was vodka, nakedness and a lot of laughing. How he staggered into bed he'll never know.
Jez decided to stop round Claudine, Danny, Lauren and Lola's flat. BB was working on his late music assignment and Jez had to admit he was a bit lost without him. He got out the key that he had been given to the flat and let himself in. The house was quiet when he entered.
"Hello?" he called out but there was no reply, "Hello?" he called again and he heard footsteps cantering down the hallway above him. Lola appeared from the top of the stairs.
"Oh my god, Jez, thank god you're here!" Lola cried as she came downstairs in her stripy pink socks and fluffy pink dressing gown, "I am so freaking out!" she cried, flinging her arms around him
"What's going on?" he ask, patting her back awkwardly
"Lauren has gone out, I think she might kill herself," Lola replied dramatically
"Babe I don't think she'll kill herself. She's got more sense than that," Jez said sensibly, getting a can of diet coke out of the fridge.
"But if Danny hadn't had a relapse of memory then they'd still be together, not with Claudine," Lola whined, "God, it's STUPID!"
"Now, now, Lola, we don't want any cat fights. This is exactly how we got into this mess," Jez covered her lips with his finger, "I do admit that it's sad that Danny and Lauren aren't together any more but these things happen,"
"I know," she whined again, stomping her feet childishly, "but Lauren is so upset and it doesn't even seem like Danny cares!"
"I'm sure he does, I did think what he did was wrong," Jez admitted
Lola made a big groaning noise and stamped her feet more.
"Come here, babe," he beckoned over to her and held out his hand for her. He pulled her onto her lap and let her head flop onto his shoulder. Gently he stroked her hair and became fascinated by twirling her curls around his finger, "Where are Danny and Claudine?"
"Gone out," she replied simply, becoming lethargic and tired.
"Don't worry babe," Jez kissed her cheek, "Whatever happens it'll all turn out for the best,"
Lola giggled slightly and leaned her head towards Jez. She began to hum under her breath and then began to sing.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,"
"You make me happy, when skies are grey," Jez finished off
"You'll never know dear how much I love you," Lola carried on
"Please don't take my sunshine away," Jez smiled against Lola's cheek and nibbled on it slightly
Lola turned and kissed Jez's lips lightly. Then she turned and straddled him in the armchair.
"You are my sunshine," Jez smiled against her lips
"I'll shine for you," she giggled.
