Stephanie had stayed hidden away for days. She spent her entire week thinking over and over about what had happened, and what outcome she wanted. How do you pick between the two men you are in love with? She felt trapped. She took another sip of her coffee, and she laid their staring at the wall. She smiled when she thought about the song Chris had wrote.
Suddenly she was snapped out of her thoughts when she got a phone call. She glanced at the number and noticed it was her father. 'Uh oh', she thought.
"Hello?" Stephanie answered.
"Stephanie! Where have you been? I've been worried sick. Are you okay?" Vince asked in a concerned tone.
"I'm fine, daddy. I needed to get awhile for a couple days… you know… clear my head." She replied.
"Would it be too much to ask if you could come down to the studio for a meeting? It's sort of a crisis." Vince replied.
"Is everything okay?" Stephanie asked.
"Well, we just lost a top guy… Rock. He's leaving for Hollywood to pursue a movie career." Vince replied. "I need to change the whole script for this week.
"Okay, sure, I'll be there as quick as I can." Stephanie replied.
"Alright. I'll see you when you get here. I love you."
"I love you too, daddy." Stephanie said as they hung up.
Stephanie had finally made her decision. She knew who she really loved and wanted to be with.
An hour went by and Stephanie had finally made it to the arena. She gathered her things and headed for the meeting. As soon as she opened the door she saw everyone sitting quietly waiting. She quickly saw Chris and Hunter both at the meeting. She felt the butterflies take over. Oh the nerves. She glanced at Hunter and he looked normal. She was surprised he wasn't fuming, and not only that but she was surprised to still see Chris alive and well after what had happened earlier in the week. She took her seat on the far end away from both of them. Right now she just didn't want to get into it. She was sure at the end of the meeting she would hear it.
After the meeting had ended, everyone gathered their belongings and headed for the door. That is everyone except Chris, Hunter, Stephanie and Vince.
"Stephanie. Have you came to a conclusion about what you are going to do?" Vince asked as he shut the door behind the last guy that walked out of the office. Chris and Hunter sat there quietly. Stephanie knew what she had to do.
"Can I talk to Chris alone for a minute?" Stephanie asked as she looked over at Hunter and Vince. Hunter had a look of disbelief. In his mind Stephanie was already choosing Chris.
"Certainly. Come on Hunter." Vince said as he guided Hunter out of the room. Hunter did not look pleased.
For a moment, Chris and Stephanie both just sat there. Stephanie finally got up and went and sat next to Chris. She could tell Chris was nervous. After a brief moment, she spoke up.
"Chris. We have been enemies since the beginning. I have hated you, and you have hated me… now I—". Stephanie was saying as Chris interrupted.
"But I never hated you Stephanie, I just-". Chris said as Stephanie returned the favor, and interrupted him.
"Let me finish. Hear me out. I'm going with my feelings…. my true feelings." Stephanie said as there was a brief pause. "I choose Hunter." She said carefully. They both just sat there quietly for a minute. Chris felt his heart literally drop. He was honestly thinking Stephanie would have chosen him. After the brief quietness, Stephanie spoke up again.
"I think your great, Chris. I want us to be friends. That poem you made…. It was so flattering. Who would have ever thought that US, two enemies, would have made it out alive in that freezing ass cold building together?" Stephanie chuckled. Chris couldn't help but smile. "I'm sorry. The last thing I want to do is hurt you in any way, but I do love my husband. He's my rock. I just don't see myself with anyone but him." She said.
Chris nodded. "It's okay. I'm a big boy. I understand." He replied, looking absolutely heartbroken.
"I'm sorry, Chris. I feel so terrible. You are probably going to go back to hating me now….."
"Hate you? Stephanie, I've never ever hated you. In fact, I've always loved you. But I know you are a married woman. At least I got to hold you in my arms one time. To feel your skin against mine. It was the greatest 3 days of my life being stuck in that building with you." He admitted. Stephanie smiled.
"I agree. I'm glad it happened." She replied.
"So…. where do we go from here? I know your husband hates me." Chris said.
"Yeah, that's an issue. I don't even think we will be able to hang out to be honest." Stephanie sighed.
"Well…. how about I go back to torturing you every week on Raw, and you go back to hating me? We can't let the guys in the locker room know what went on between us. I mean, after all, I do have a reputation to maintain." Chris smirked.
Stephanie let out a soft laugh. "I suppose that would be okay. I can't think of any other option at this point. At least we will know the truth."
"Deal." Chris said as he stood up and reached his hand across to Stephanie expecting a hand shake. Stephanie just looked at him odd and moved in for a hug. It stunned Chris a little.
"I'll miss this, Chris." Stephanie said as she finished hugging Chris and then leaned in and let the softest kiss on his full lips. He just stood there kind of stunned.
"What was that for?" Chris asked with a bedazzled look on his face.
"I just figured I'd get one more in." she smiled. Chris smiled in return.
"I'll miss you, Steph." Chris said as he turned to head to the door. He turned back once more to see Stephanie smiling back at him. He proceeded out the door, where Vince and Hunter were standing. Hunter gave Chris a dirty look as he passed him. Hunter then proceeded in the room with Steph and shut the door.
"What happened? You chose Chris?" Hunter asked, fully thinking he was about to lose Stephanie forever.
"No silly. I told him to get lost." Stephanie said. Hunter stood there confused.
"I love YOU, Hunter. No one else. Chris was a mistake that shouldn't have ever happened. And I am truly sorry for hurting you the way I did. No one will ever come in between us again. That is, if you still want to take me back." She said, waiting for an answer in return.
A huge smile spread across Hunter's face. "Stephanie, of course I will. I love you." He said as he had a dumb founded look on his face. "I just don't ever want to lose you." He pulled Stephanie in for a hug, and planted a kiss on her soft luscious lips. Stephanie smiled. "You never will."
The next day…
Stephanie and Hunter arrived at Raw. They made it to their locker rooms, and relaxed on the sofa as they were preparing for their match. It was Stephanie and Hunter vs Trish and Test. They turned on their TV in their room to watch the show. Chyna and Eddie Guerrero were in the ring. After a few minutes Chris Jericho's music hit. Stephanie couldn't help but try and pay attention.
"So what happened to you and Chris? What exactly did you tell him?" Hunter asked as he noticed her watching on. Stephanie really had no idea what to expect from Chris. She was certain he would go back to calling her names weekly, and she would pretend to be insulted. But they knew the truth. And only they would ever really know. They watched on in anticipation.
"Two weeks ago, I was punished for calling Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley a bargain basement slut - yeah - and I also called her the filthiest, dirtiest, most disgustingly skankiest, brutal, bottom-feeding trash-bag ho I had ever - EEEEEEVER - seen in my life. So I came out here tonight to apologize. I came to apologize to all of the bargain basement sluts... and to all of the filthy, disgusting, dirty, skanky, brutal, bottom-feeding, trash-bag ho's - I apologize for even comparing you to the miserable slime ball pig that IS Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. So I apologize for offending anybody, with the exception of Stephy Baby." – Chris spoke. It all seemed to be back to normal. Like nothing had ever happened between the two.
"That son of a bitch. He's mine tonight. SEE…. He's so full of shit, Steph. I knew he would do this. I'm going to find him now. Stay here." Hunter said as he headed in that direction.
Stephanie smiled when Hunter was gone. Oh yeah, things were certainly back to normal. She'd never forget their encounter that night in the freezing arena. She was thankful it happened. And every time they would walk by each other in the hallway, they would know the truth.
