*(A/N) Hey guys! Sorry for the long delay. Been really busy with uni and stuff. Anyway here it is, ch 2!
James put his cell phone down on the table and took a minute to digest what Dean had just told him. He almost refused to believe that Sam had turned his back on Dean and was now on the run. Even harder to believe was that Sam was drinking demon blood in order to get stronger. But possibly the hardest thing to comprehend was the fact that an epic war between angels and demons was going on and he had absolutely no clue. As Jenna emerged from the basement, James wondered if he should tell her about the phone call. He knew that if he did, she would insist on following to help Dean, but he also knew that this was something he just couldn't keep from her.
"Okay seriously, you need to tell me what's going on with you... I know something is bothering you." Jenna stated bluntly
"I just got a call... from Dean." James replied.
"Winchester?" She asked a little surprised.
"That's the one."
Jenna took a seat opposite her brother. She leaned forward, listening intently, obviously very interested, considering their history.
"Sam's in trouble." James informed her.
"Trouble? What kind of trouble?" Jenna's excitement turned to worry.
"He's gone the wrong side of the tracks."
"What do you mean? Stop being so cryptic."
"Did you know Sam has had demon blood in him since he was a baby?"
"No... I had no idea."
"Neither did I. Well the demon blood gives him some kind of special demon killing powers. And well he's been drinking demon blood to supersize his powers to kill Lilith." James explained.
"Lilith?" Jenna probed further.
"Apparently she's one bad ass demon bitch who is trying to break all these seals and release Lucifer from hell."
"What?!?!" Jenna exclaimed, nearly falling out of her chair. "Lucifer exists?!?!"
"Yeah. And apparently so do angels and God. Apparently they've been having this big time all in brawl and we had no clue."
Jenna was at a loss for words at what James was telling her.
"So... Sam is trying to stop this Lilith person from breaking these seals and releasing Lucifer... and Sam is the problem? I don't get it." Jenna questioned.
"He's drinking demon blood Jenna... it can't be healthy. And it's certainly not normal."
"I drink blood." She pointed out.
"Yeah... but that's different. You can't help it. You need it to survive."
"It seems like Sam is trying to do the right thing here and stop the antichrist from rising and you all are condemning him because he's doing what is necessary."
"So what, you don't want to go help Dean?"
"I didn't say that. I just don't think we should jump to any conclusions. I think Sam knows what he's doing and we should maybe just trust that he'll do the right thing in the end." Jenna said.
"Maybe. Dean did sound quite desperate though so I'm going to go lend a hand any way I can. You in?"
"Yeah I'm in." Jenna replied after a long pause.
"You sure this is going to work?" Sam questioned.
"It's the only way I know to get to Lilith. If you have any better ideas I'm all ears Sam." Ruby replied.
The two of them stood in the parking lot of a hospital. It was late at night and there weren't that many cars in the parking lot. The lot was also badly lit, so they didn't have any trouble concealing their presence. Nurses filtered in and out of the hospital as the ones working the night shift began their days work. An attractive young nurse in pink scrubs with shoulder length black hair caught the attention of both Sam and Ruby.
"Is that her?" Sam hissed.
"That's the one."
Sam quickly scanned the rest of the parking lot. It was empty.
"Okay let's go."
The two of them split up, one going left, one going right. They caught the nurse in a pincer as Sam walked straight up to her. As soon as she saw him, her expression changed to one of pure hatred.
"You..." she snarled.
Sam wasted no time. He focused all his energy into the palm of his hand. He raised his half clenched hand, his palm pointing straight at her. He could feel himself grip onto the demon inside the nurse. The nurse was suddenly rooted to the spot, unable to move a single muscle. Her face was frozen in a mask of hatred and fear. As he clenched a bit harder, the nurse opened her mouth to scream, but just as she was about to, Ruby came up from behind her and clubbed her in the back of the neck with her elbow. Sam released his grip as she sagged to the ground. He hurried over to the crumpled figure on the ground. Picking her up and hoisting her over his shoulder, he made his way over to Ruby's car. She popped the trunk and Sam dumped the body inside. On the roof of the trunk was a devil's trap. He took one last look at the innocent looking nurse and slammed the trunk shut.
"AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!" Another blood curdling scream emerged from the nurse's mouth as Sam could feel his fingers dig into the demon's soul. He twisted and mangled the unholy being inside her as she continued to writhe in pain. An expressionless Ruby looked on, standing a few feet behind Sam. The nurse lay on a plain wooden table in the middle of a rundown, abandoned shack like house. No restraints were required as the nurse couldn't move a muscle while Sam had his hand clasped tightly on the demon inside her. He twisted even harder as she continued to cry out in agony. Sam could see her eyes begin to roll to the back of her head forcing him to release his grasp. She let out a sigh of relief, sucking in deep breaths.
"Tell me where Lilith is!!!" Sam yelled.
"I... I don't know where... she is." She managed to get out in between deep breaths.
Sam wasn't ready to believe her as he tightened his grasp once more.
"NOOOO!!!" The nurse screamed in excruciating pain. "Please... I swear I'm telling the truth."
"Why should I believe you?" Sam asked.
"Please... I've got no reason to lie... If I tell you Lilith will kill me, if I don't you'll kill me. Either way I'm dead. I swear I don't know where she is... but I know where she'll be."
"If I tell you... promise me you'll stop torturing me. Promise me you'll kill me quick."
Sam was a little taken aback by the strange request. He looked to Ruby for direction as he was a little unsure of himself. She nodded, urging him on. Sam returned his attention to the demon nurse and nodded.
James lugged a duffle bag over his shoulder. It was filled nearly to the brim. Jenna overtook him briskly. She walked over to the boot of their rental Mitsubishi Lancer and popped it. James dumped the duffle bag full of their "tools" into the boot and shut it. The sun beat down on them as James wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead.
"Is that everything?" Jenna asked.
"Should be." James replied. "You sure you wanna do this? I can go this one alone."
"I'm sure Jimmy."
"Hey!" Someone called from the front doorway. The two of them turned around to see Serena standing there. The woman who had been a mother to them since they were little kids stood with her arms folded. "You guys leaving already?" She called out.
"Yeah. If we leave now we might be able to make it by tomorrow night." James called back.
Serena stood motionless, her gaze shifting from James to Jenna, and back to James. She wondered if she should tell them about the letter. She decided against it, not wanting to worry them on their very personal mission. While it did bother her very much so that she was keeping this a secret from them, she didn't want them thinking about her while they were looking for Sam, so she kept her secret a secret a little while longer.
"Okay well take care. Look out for each other and bring Sam home safe."
"Will do." James said.
"See you soon." Jenna called out.
The two of them got into the car, and before Serena knew it, they were gone.
