Requiem for a Living Ghost

She saw me

Saw my face

And

Her eyes went wide in

Terror;

Beautiful, sad blues so

Fearful,

Tearful,

Taking in the disaster

Of my monstrosity.

Her own features –

Flawless features! –

Paled,

Greened like

A new twig;

Her mouth a terrible

O

As she screamed,

As I yelled at

Her –

Oh, why did I yell at

Her?

It matters not

I cannot have such

Things of Beauty.

A monster can never have

Love.
