She's wearing that necklace. The one you gave to her last Christmas. Your signal. That's how you know when he will be away long enough for the two of you to get away with it.

And you're wearing that sweater. The one she picked out for you on one of the thousands of shopping trips over the years. Her signal. That's how she'll know when your wife will be away long enough for the two of you to get away with it.

It's because of those signals that the two of you have spent the last three hours alone in your bed. That's why she's wrapped in your arms right now. It's the reason her head is resting on your shoulder. The cause of the beads of sweat glistening down her back.

You tell yourself that this is the last time. You will not let this happen again, simply because it can't. You are both married to other people. There is far too much at stake for this to continue.

But, as she lifts her head to look in your eyes, you know that you're wrong. You know that the next time she wears that necklace the result will be the same. She'll always end up falling into your arms after she falls out of her dress.

You want more, though. You need more. You need to hold her hand. You need to brush her hair from her face as she sleeps. You need the pleasure of looking into her eyes first thing in the morning. You need her to love you back.

But she doesn't, and she won't. Her need for you is purely physical. A way of getting what she wants. What he refuses to give her. And you know you cannot deny her. She has become your world over the past three months. But her heart belongs to him. The only thing that belongs to you is her body and your memories.
