I do not own InuYasha or any of the characters created by Rumiko Takahashi

Spring Picnic

InuYasha closed his eyes and lay there on the grass, his hands cushioning his head beneath a cascade of silver hair. The air was warm but not too hot, and the breeze carried scents of the forest – damp ground and pine and water and a touch of some sweet wildflower. His ear twitched at the sound of two birds bickering in the distance.

"Must be mating season," he thought.

The only other sounds of note were that of the water rushing down the stream over its bed of rock and the sounds of his wife as she unpacked the lunch she had brought with them. Somewhere in the distance, a pheasant rooster crowed, looking for a hen.

Kagome opened a box, and the smells of rice and fish rolls tickled his nose. She opened another box, and he smelled cold noodles in that sauce he liked. He cracked open his eyes, saw her smiling, and sat up. He watched as a pair of ducks came in for landing on the stream, the drake in hot pursuit of the female.

"You do want lunch, don't you?" she asked.

He nodded, and moved closer then wrapped an arm around her. She popped a roll into his mouth.

"I know that look, Mister," she said, laughing as he made puppy eyes at her. "Eat first."

InuYasha grabbed her hand and kissed her finger. On a nearby tree, a dove puffed out his chest and cooed at the partner he was wooing.

"I'd rather eat you," he murmured, pulling her close.

"You know you can't have dessert first," she laughed, and kissing him on the nose first, pulled away and handed him his chopsticks.
